According to the Ministry of Transport and reports by Hunan Daily/Huasheng Online and Poster News, the Zhangjiajie–Gaoping section of the G59 Hohhot–Beihai Expressway opened for trial operation at 00:00 on 1 November, completing the roughly 2,803 km Hu-Bei Expressway. The route runs from Hohhot in Inner Mongolia to Beihai in Guangxi through six provincial-level regions and is the seventh of 11 north–south corridors in China's national expressway network. The newly opened Hunan segment runs 57.437 km from Yangchi village in Yongding district, Zhangjiajie, to Gaoping village in Qinglang township, Yuanling county, Huaihua, as a dual two-lane expressway designed for 100 km/h. Key works include the 1,707 m Dongtingxi Yuan River bridge with an 800 m single-span suspension main bridge, and the Yuanguping extra-long tunnel (5,151 m left bore, 5,127 m right). Reports said the completed route can divert traffic from other north–south corridors and give central China a faster path to the Beibu Gulf and western Guangdong coast.
